Matariki: The Memory Vessel
Build and carve a memory vessel — Sunday 12 July, 2–4pm
Service Description
Dedicated to Pōhutukawa — the star associated with those who have passed — this workshop invites you to slow down and make something meaningful. You will build a cylindrical slab vase using two different clays, then use the Sgraffito technique to scratch through one layer and reveal the clay beneath, creating star patterns or winter landscapes. The result is a vessel for storing memories, winter blooms, or both. This class is the third in our Matariki Series: Light, Lineage, and Clay — a three-part journey celebrating the Māori New Year through clay. Book one or all three. All materials, tools, and firing included. Your finished piece will be ready to collect within 2–3 weeks.

At The Potters' Roost, we keep our class sizes small to ensure everyone receives quality guidance and enough space to create. Because we are a social enterprise, every booking directly supports our community programs. 1. We do offer formal "make-up" classes with a tutor, once a month on a Thursday evening to catch-up on what you missed. 3. If We Cancel In the rare event that we have to cancel a class due to tutor illness or low enrolment, you will be offered a full refund or a priority transfer to the next available date.
