The Phoenix Program
A clay-based mental wellbeing course for people who need space to pause, reset
and begin again.
The Phoenix Program is the heart of The Potters’ Roost. It uses the grounding, tactile nature of clay to support people navigating stress, burnout, mental health challenges or seasons of personal change. This is not a clinical program. It is a calm, creative sanctuary where clay becomes a tool for regulation, reflection and renewal.
Why Clay?
Clay asks you to be present.
It slows the hands, softens the breath and gives the mind something steady to focus on. The process is tactile, forgiving and deeply human. You can press, shape, smooth, rebuild and begin again.
For people carrying stress, grief or emotional exhaustion, that process can feel powerful. Not because it fixes everything, but because it creates a safe moment of connection — with the material, the body and the present moment.

-
Burnout
-
Stress
-
Grief or loss

The need for a calm, creative outlet
You do not need pottery experience. You do not need to be “artistic.” You only need to arrive as you are.

What to Expect
Phoenix sessions are designed to feel gentle, supportive and accessible.
Participants are guided through clay-based making in a small, calm studio environment. The focus is on the process rather than perfection. There is time to slow down, work with your hands, create at your own pace and leave with something meaningful.
During a 4 week course participants will work on a mindfulness sculpture in guided stages. From creating the initial form, evolving its shape, adding textures and preparing it for the kiln.
Subsidised Creative Wellbeing
The Phoenix Program is subsidised so cost does not become the thing that keeps people away from support.
Every Potters’ Roost class, event and membership helps make this possible. When the wider community creates at The Roost, they help fund access for people who may need clay, calm and connection most.
The live website states that sessions are subsidised to ensure cost is not a barrier to recovery.

A Safe, Non-Clinical Creative Space
The Phoenix Program is built around care, dignity and creative process.
It is not a replacement for professional mental health treatment. Instead, it offers a supportive complementary space where people can experience the benefits of making, slowing down and being in a calm studio environment.
