Service Description
In this focused 2.5-hour workshop, you will design and construct a custom slab-built mug, a perfectly fitted internal tea leaf infuser, and a matching lid to keep your brew piping hot. This class is tailored for intermediate potters looking to refine their handbuilding techniques, focus on precise fitting, and master functional pottery design. To make this afternoon truly special, we are teaming up with Upper Hutt’s very own Foxy Tea Shop. The founder, Carol Fox, will join us to share her passion for loose-leaf brewing, offer a brief talk on the art of creating the perfect cuppa, and provide samples of her premium, handcrafted organic teas to enjoy while you create. She’ll also have an on-site pop-up shop so you can purchase her signature blends directly during the class. What You Will Learn & Do: Slab Construction: Roll, cut, and assemble a functional mug body. Precision Fitting: Craft a smaller, nesting infuser insert and a custom lid. Perforation Techniques: Piercing clay cleanly for optimal tea filtration. Step-by-Step Guidance: Clear, structured instructions provided throughout the process. Tea Tasting: Sip organic local blends and learn the science behind a great brew. What is Included: All clay, tools, glazes, and firing services. Complimentary tea tastings from Foxy Tea Shop, and a selection of tea blends available to purchase. Your finished, food-safe, dishwasher-safe ceramic tea set (available for pickup 3-4 weeks after firing).
Cancellation Policy
At The Potters' Roost, we keep our class sizes small to ensure everyone receives quality guidance and enough space to create. Because we are a social enterprise, every booking directly supports our community programs. 1. Course & Workshop Cancellations 7 Days or More Notice: We offer a full refund (minus a $15 admin fee) or a rebooking for a future course. 48 Hours to 7 Days Notice: We offer a 50% refund or a rebooking. Less than 48 Hours Notice: No refunds or credits can be issued, as it is difficult to fill your spot at such short notice. However, you are welcome to send a friend in your place! Missed classed and no-shows cannot be refunded. 2. "Catch-Up" Sessions (For 6-Week Courses) We understand that life happens—illness, family, or work can get in the way. We do offer formal "make-up" classes with a tutor, once a month on a Thursday evening to catch-up on what you missed. 3. If We Cancel In the rare event that we have to cancel a class due to tutor illness or low enrolment, you will be offered a full refund or a priority transfer to the next available date.
